Lib Dems to replace SNP as second party in Scotland

From the Scotsman: According to an ICM poll, Labour is set to lose 6 seats, which is their worst result since 1992. The poll also shows the Tories are completely moribund. The most interesting point was that - with the SNP failing to make a breakthrough - it seems the Liberals are set to take them over and become Scotland's second party.

On the face of it, this is welcome: one of the problems for me as a Scottish voter is that there is no unionist alternative to Labour.

On the other hand, given their performance in the Scottish Parliament, one wonders if the Liberal Democrats can really claim to be an alternative to Labour.
